Clouds Stubbornly Hold On

With the absence of a solid push of dry air, we are dealing with low clouds and some patchy dense fog and some drizzle this morning. The satellite loop shows that very slow moving upper air storm sitting just southeast of Cape Cod and moving at a snails pace. To the west across the Ohio Valley and Midwest we have a cold front that will swing east and weaken today. The severe weather event of last night will not be repeated as the showers and thunderstorms with this front are going to weaken as they move east. The big issue for today is whether then sun will be able to poke through the clouds at some point. I think the best chances for that will be inland of the coast across Western New Jersey & the Hudson Valley. It make take most of the day for low clouds to break up enough along coastal areas to allow the sun to poke through. Highs will be in the 60s and where the sun does succeed, 70 or low 70s are certainly doable.

Tonight as the cold front moves through there might be a passing shower or two with that but weakening nature of the front would suggest the possibility of no rain at all. Friday looks better with some sunshine and highs in the 70s to near 80. Even warmer air arrives for Saturday with highs reaching the 80s in most places with sunshine and some clouds.

NAM MODEL SATURDAY FORECAST HIGHS

The difference between Saturday and Sunday is a back door cold front that drops through Saturday evening. This means that Sunday will be at least 15 to 20 degrees cooler thanks to an northeast to east wind.

NAM MODEL SUNDAY FORECAST HIGHS

Other than a passing shower we should be in good shape for the weekend. Sunday there could be some clouds coming in from the east so we will have to watch for that possibility. A strong cold front approaches on Monday and with that some showers and thunderstorms are possible late Monday into Monday night.
