Clouds East & West Rain Saturday Into Sunday
Clouds East & West Rain Saturday Into Sunday
As we look at the satellite loop this morning we see the rotation of the upper air storm off the New England Coast. We also see several disturbances from the Ohio Valley moving east with clouds into Pennsylvania with rain and thunderstorms from Western Pennsylvania southeastward into Maryland and Virginia. That rain area is moving southeast so it is not an issue here. However the clouds are from the west as well as some clouds from the east so the question is that rather small sweet spot of clear skies in between and how long it lasts and who stays in it. The best approach is that we will be partly sunny but if you are in Southwest Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania you will probably be mostly cloudy and if you are in Southeastern New England you will be mostly cloudy. During the course of the day the dry air should win out and clouds in areas south and west of NYC should thin a bit later today. Temperatures again are starting cool this morning and highs will reach into the 60s away from the ocean but only in the 50s along the coast.

We will do it one more time on Friday after another cool night tonight with lows in the 40s..with 30s in cold spots north and northwest of the coast. Sunshine will give way to arriving clouds Friday with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Then we set up for the rain this weekend.
RAINFALL FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING 8PM
In terms of timing everything remains about the same. Rain develops from south to north Saturday morning..north and east of NYC around or shortly after 12 noon. The heavies rain will be Saturday afternoon and Saturday night and then ending from west to east during the early morning hours across New Jersey and by mid morning across Long Island and Eastern Connecticut. I still think there is the potential for some places to get 2 to 3 inches of rain from this. Models typically backed off somewhat overnight from the extreme forecasts of yesterday but the dynamics remain there for a heavy rain so you want to be careful here with a situation like this. The rain should be done so that the bulk of Mothers day might be dry though clearing could be slow to occur.
