Depending on where you are this is either the 7th 9th or 10th day in a row with no rain. The bottom line is that is has been bone dry for awhile and in the spring, the ground bakes up pretty quickly under conditions of low humidity and day long sunshine. The overall weather pattern is showing a strong blocking signature and this might lead to some possibilities for rain IF (that is the big question) upper air winds in the atmosphere set up a certain way.

We are looking at the new afternoon Euro Model which I think shows the blocking very well. You can see the big blocking high over Greenland and as long as it holds, it keeps the vortex in Eastern Canada in place. The question will be whether there could be some sort of disturbance rotating around that vortex that could set us up for some rain. Both the Euro model and the GFS model do show something coming around for early next week.

The GFS model is probably the most bullish looking for rain but you can see in a case like this there are issues. Timing and strength of waves is one issue. The Euro model has a drier look by late Tuesday after a shot of rain Monday night into Tuesday morning. Then it waits for the second low back in Colorado to come out later in the week. One thing common through both models is that temperatures will be on the cool side particularly if an onshore flow develops they way both models show it.

Other than this change, we look forward to some showers on Friday but that doesn’t look like a big deal. Then the weekend will be dry and cooler with some sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. The rainfall map above is total rain for the next 7 days which would cover any rain that falls Friday and whatever happens early next week. From both events it would total under an inch for the most part. This is not exactly what I would call impressive.
