Better Seasonal Weather Ahead Monday Through Wednesday

Weather conditions have been slow to improve thanks to a stubborn warm front and a cold front to the west that is yet to pass. Fog has developed around the area though it is dense in patchy areas wherever there is still some snow cover on the ground. Eventually the cold front will pass later tonight. Winds will pick up from the west and skies should clear out by morning with lows in the 30s. Radars are quiet nearby though we can still see impacts from today’s weather system in Northern New England where snow continues for awhile longer.

REGIONAL RADAR

storm free

The next 3 days should see better weather and seasonal conditions for our area. Monday will be breezy with some sunshine and patchy clouds. Highs will reach into the 50s. Colder air will return Monday night with lows in the 20s to lower 30s. Tuesday will be mostly sunny but chilly with highs in the low to mid 40s. Wednesday looks nice with sunshine and highs will be in the 40s to near 50.

Another large storm is forecast to move out of the Rockies and track northward toward Minnesota on Thursday. This low is going to track far to our west thanks to a large ridge of high pressure at the surface and aloft in the Eastern US. This should keep things dry through most of Thursday with sunshine and arriving clouds. Highs will be in the 50s. That weather front will arrive on Friday with a wave on it so that brings a chance for showers and highs could reach into the 60s in areas away from the ocean.

Better Seasonal Weather Ahead Monday Through Wednesday

We spoke a few days ago about a temporary pattern shift that would occur beginning next weekend and indeed we seem to be headed that way. This is indeed a temporary shift and it will favor colder conditions returning to the Eastern US next weekend. This is NOT like what we just experienced last week with temperatures 20 degreesl below average.

This pattern will likely bring sub normal temperatures to the East next weekend and into the week that follows (week of March 17-23). Whether this colder pattern comes with one last gasp from the winter time snow gods is rather uncertain. We are at the time of year where any system bringing snow to the coastal Northeast would have to come with an almost ideal set up. Nothing specific is showing up on weather models today that allow us point to a specific system. We will watch to see if this takes us anywhere other than cold and dry. In the meantime some nice days are ahead with temperatures typical for mid March.
