Best Day of the Week Sunshine High Close to 70 Degrees Weekend Outlook

We promised that today will be the best day of the week and indeed it is. Take a look at the satellite picture and there are clear skies from New England southward to the Southeast US (except the coast) westward in the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley. This is thanks to strong high pressure sitting over the Great Lakes and it is taking its sweet time heading eastward.

The air overhead is cool thanks to a northwest flow in the upper atmosphere but there are no upper troughs to worry about today. Highs will reach 65 to 70 degrees and there won’t be much of any sea breeze action today except maybe right along the immediate coast and not until late this afternoon. It is a sunny day from start to finish. Skies will be clear tonight with most lows in the mid 40s to around 50 with the coolest spots well inland down close to 40.

On to Friday and the weekend. The high will be over the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states through the weekend though it will weaken some. We are still going to be under a northwest flow and while there are going to be weak upper troughs moving through each day, Sky wise it should be no worse than partly sunny for Friday and Saturday.

The May sun will be working its magic and Friday’s highs should reach the upper 60s and lower 70s everywhere. Saturday we should be able to take it up a notch with highs in the low to mid 70s. There is the outside chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm inland each day but the chances are quite low and the vast majority of you won’t see anything and even if you do it won’t last long.

Sunday brings a partly sunny start to the day but there is going to be another upper trough. There is alos going to be a weak system pushing out from the Plains eastward. There may be enough here for a higher chance for showers and perhaps a thunderstorm Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Highs Sunday will be in the low to mid 70s.

Looking ahead to next week, Sunday’s system might linger into Monday morning early but at least the first half of next week looks nice and sunny. Another high builds in from the Great Lakes but this is not going to be a cold high but rather a warmer one thanks to ridging along the east coast. This could set us up for improving weather conditions Monday and sunshine for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Highs by day will be in the 70s!
