Beautiful Thursday, Freeze This Weekend , First Snow Flurries Possible?

Today is beautiful with blue skies and sunshine with highs in the low to mid 60s. In fact the weather across much of the United States is extremely quiet and has been for many days. There isn’t any rain going anywhere! The well advertised frosts and freezes are coming for the weekend. Ahead of this we will see just a few passing showers Friday morning before we get into some sunshine in the afternoon with highs in the mid 60s.

The way the weekend sets up has been well telegraphed. Saturday temperatures will be in the low to mid 50s. Sunday’s highs will be just in the mid to upper 40s at best. Sunday morning and Monday morning lows will be in the 20s to lower 30s except in the warmer urban areas where lows will be in the mid to upper 30s. We posted earlier about the season’s first snows for elevated areas well north and northeast into Northern New England. There is going to be a disturbance moving across Northern Pennsylvania  and then off the New Jersey coast Sunday evening.

gfs90The model picks up on this but as cold as the atmosphere is, I can’t get worked up over this other than the fact that somebody might see some snow flurries or showers or graupal. The air is going to be cold and unstable Sunday afternoon so someone could see the cheapest of cheap thrills. Regardless Monday morning it will be very cold but then temperatures begin to moderate next week and we should be back into the 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday. The extent of frosts and freezes will depend on sky conditions and winds on Saturday night and Sunday night.
