Another Miserable Day Rain Raw 40s Hope Lies Ahead For Improvement

When you wake up to another miserable day, which is going to be remarkably similar to yesterday, you just want to pull the sheets over your head and stay in bed. The map above shows the temperatures and radar at 8am. The problem is that those temperatures might still be a those levels at 3pm. In addition take a good look at the satellite picture this morning and it just screams “runaway”. The next (and the last) wave of low pressure is about to play through.

REGIONAL RADAR

Regional radar is showing some shower activity moving through this morning though not everyone is participating in this at the moment. What comes from the southwest later today will be heavier rain and we can see the beginnings of that developing over West Virginia and Virginia. That rain gets here during this afternoon and lasts into the first part of tonight.

While all this is going on temperatures will be hard pressed to get out of the 40s once again and while it is raining we will likely see temperatures down closer to 40 particularly this evening. Rainfall amounts today and tonight will be in the 1/2 inch to 1 inch range with some amounts locally higher. Add this to the 1 inch plus rainfalls from yesterday and you have the sense that mold isn’t far behind. At least the grass gets watered for free.

Once this wave goes by tonight and the rain ends we get a little bit of improvement on Tuesday though there will be lots of clouds around. An upper trough will swing through here Tuesday afternoon with the chance for scattered showers. Temperatures should make it back into the 50s. Wednesday might see some breaks of sunshine though another upper air disturbance dropping southward from Canada will bring afternoon clouds and some showers Wednesday night. Temperatures at least should make it back into the 60s (though barely). Some genuine improvement begins on Thursday with more sunshine, fewer clouds and highs into the 60s. An early look at the weekend has models on opposite sides. The GFS model would have it decent with temperatures warming up nicely. The European model would have it decent though cool at least to start the weekend as a big high builds down again from Eastern Canada. The high however would be strong enough to keep the onshore flow and clouds well to the south of us. It seems at least that either way the weather does improve so that is a good thing. It also times out well with the PGA Golf Championship being held in Bethpage NY starting Thursday.

We have a complete forecast outlook on this and will be updating it throughout the week at our weatherlongisland.com website or you can download our free weather app for current conditions and forecasts for Bethpage or any location you choose.
