A Warm Up of Sorts This Week As The Extreme Cold Departs
The new week begins and we do have some good news. The pattern of endless arctic air masses is finally breaking down and we are going to see a more normalized and a more variable weather pattern going forward. This morning lows reached the single digits in most places and below zero in the coldest spots. We are going to see plenty of sunshine today, a lot less in the way of wind, and highs that will reach the middle and upper 20s this afternoon and that is going to be quite an accomplishment. Radars are quiet and could remain that way all week.

Even the nights are “warming up” as lows tonight will be in the teens to around 20 degrees Tuesday morning and only the coldest spots will reach the single digits. Tuesday is shaping up to be a partly sunny day. A warm front will be going by to the north and another cold front will be heading our way but these fronts are going to be generally dry affairs. Highs Tuesday afternoon will reach the 30s.
There could be a few snow showers well inland and north as the warm front goes by. Also to the south in Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania we could see highs in the upper 30s. Wednesday is shaping up to be the warmest day of the week but these days warmest means getting back to average. There will be some sunshine Wednesday with and highs will reach the upper 30s and lower 40s.
A cold front goes by and we do see colder air coming in for the end of the week and into the weekend however this is not a brutal arctic air mass. Temperatures will trend below average Thursday and Friday which means highs probably back to the upper 20s and lower 30s and both days will be dry. Storm wise things are quiet but we do have Pacific energy coming into the west later this week and some of that energy will be heading eastward.
Low pressure will be developing in Texas and heading eastward over the weekend. We probably won’t see much of anything from this storm system until later Sunday or Monday of next week and there may not be a whole lot of cold air around with that storm system arrives but we also would anticipate model gyrations in the coming days. At least for now the arctic express is shut down and we can at least come out of our igloos.
