A Touch of Snow For A Lucky Few Tonight

Christmas Eve Quiet But Rain Christmas Day For Most

This is what it has come down to for snow lovers this Christmas. We have a weak little system moving southeast from the Great Lakes. It is so weak that even this forecast might be overstating how much snow comes out of this tonight. More on that in the moment.

In the meantime we have a nice day underway but it is a bit of a cold day as we bottomed this morning in the 20s. We aren’t seeing any clouds around this morning and I expect us to be mostly sunny into the afternoon before some high clouds come in from the northwest and that is ahead of the weak Great Lakes system that is moving southeastward. Temperatures today will be topping out mostly in the 30s to near 40 in the warmest spots.

Tonight this very weak system will move across the area and with it will be some patchy areas of snow showers. The time frame for this looks to be from about 10 or 11pm until 3 or 4 am Friday morning. This is one of those situations where it could snow all night and you would barely be able to put down a coating of snow. There really is no upside here. The best chances for anything from this would be from NYC and Northernmost New Jersey to Northeast Pennsylvania, the Catskills, the Hudson Valley into Southern New England.

Christmas Eve as a whole will be a day of clouds mixed with some sun but we have another weather system headed our way for Friday night into Saturday night. It is going to be a mild Christmas eve with highs in the low to mid 40s. Then the next fast moving system arrives with rain for Friday night and, depending on location, on and off rain for Saturday.

If you are south of that warm front on Christmas day, Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey southward, you will see highs in the mid to upper 50s and in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia we could see highs in the 60s. There will be very little rain south of the warm front. North of that warm front and it will be raw and rainy with highs just in the 40s to around 50.

Saturday night as the low moves to Cape Cod, winds shift to the northwest and it turns windy and colder for Sunday with some sunshine and clouds and temperatures back into the 40s.  Another low approaches Monday and it remains to be seen whether it holds together or not. We have yet another system approaching for Wednesday and here too to it remains to be seen whether it holds together.
