A Frosty Morning Inland But A Slightly Warmer Afternoon Rain Likely Late Week

A Frosty Morning Inland But A Slightly Warmer Afternoon Rain Likely Late Week

It certainly goes down as the coldest morning of the Autumn season so far. Many areas had their first frosts this morning as inland lows dropped to the upper 20s and lower 30s in many areas of the Northeast. However this time of year there is still enough daylight for a decent recovering as far as temperatures go.

There is a weak cold front to the north and on the satellite loop you can see clouds moving southeast across Southeastern Canada and into New England. The low cloud line does not extend too far south so this should leave Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England under partly to mostly sunny skies for today. Temperatures should make a nice recovery back to the upper 50s and lower 60s which is below average yet again.

Winds will turn more westerly tonight and that should keep temperatures from falling below freezing except for the coolest spots. Skies should be partly to mostly clear. Most lows inland will be in the mid to upper 30s while warmer urban locations and the coast will be in the 40s. Monday looks to be a partly sunny day. We will see temperatures moderate for the first part of this week as highs reach back to the mid and possibly upper 60s Monday. Skies should be no worse than partly sunny for Tuesday and Wednesday as well with highs in a range of 65 to near 70.

The overall pattern continues to be domninated by a strong jet stream coming out of Northern Canada and into the Eastern US bringing down shots of cold air. The next cold front arrives Thursday and with that a solid area of rain ahead of the front with highs in the 60s. The front moves offshore and keeps going and several shots of cooler air will follow starting with next weekend and probably into the entire week of October 17-22.
