Cooler Than Average Temperature Week

Rain Wednesday Night Into Thursday Morning

A wind off the ocean this time of year can be a set up for gloomy weather but this time around, the onshore flow from the northeast and east is all about dry air from Eastern Canada and Northern New England where high pressure is parked. Dry weather conditions and mainly clear skies are evident on the satellite loop. The only low cloud issues are in the Southeast US and that should burn off to some degree. It leaves Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England in an area of mainly sunny skies today. Temperatures however will be cool with highs in the 60s inland and 50s along the coast. Radars show absolutely nothing going on rain wise.

The dry air mass will cover us tonight. Skies will be mainly clear with most lows in the 40s. Some 30s are possible in cold spots. A cold front in the Midwest today is going to be a big severe weather producer in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana but this front will be heading east Tuesday and weakening as it does so. This leaves us with a Tuesday that should be no worse than partly sunny. We could see some clouds in the mix during the afternoon and evening. Once again we are looking at highs in the 60s inland & 50s coast.

We are going to throw in the risk for a passing shower Tuesday evening but much of the activity with this weather front will fall apart as it heads east. A second weather front and low pressure developing on it will head up the west side of the Appalachians late Wednesday into Thursday. This affords us a higher chance we could see some rain late Wednesday, Wednesday night into the first part of Thursday.

We are likely to see increasing clouds Wednesday with temperatures in the 60s. Rain and some thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night into Thursday morning and some areas east of New York City could see rain lingering into midday before low pressure pulls out to the east. This system does have the potential to produce 1/2 inch to an inch of rain depending on whether convection gets involved. Beyond this system expect cooler than average temperature conditions Friday and the weekend. It will not be picture perfect this coming weekend thanks to a cold unstable air mass aloft but it is likely to be dry for much of the time.
