80s New Jersey 60s Long Island Typical Spring Late Afternoon

We have a bit of an odd set up with a weather system and low pressure moving across the southern states. To the north is a frontal boundary and low pressure moving across New England with winter still going on in Maine. In between it is a battle of warm air with west winds, cool marine air on south winds, and varying amounts of clouds and sunshine for the area in between. Temperatures in the Southern half of New Jersey have outperformed today reaching the lower 80s.

Meanwhile across Connecticut it is in the 40s to lower 50s and Long Island is sitting in the mid 50s to the east and mid 60s to the west. 70s have reached NYC & parts of the Hudson Valley. Basically we have a 35 degree temperature spread over just a couple of hundred air miles.

Of course we have everything from snow to rain to thunderstorms on the regional radar going into this evening. Some of the thunderstorms that are developing in the Carolinas and Virginia are going to be severe. We are seeing some showers in the Middle Hudson Valley moving southeast but nothing is showing up on the local radars nearby.

More spring battles lie ahead for Tuesday. This could be another strange temperature day with the combination of a back door cold front from the northeast, another cold front from the northwest and low pressure moving across Central New England. It could be another wide range temperature day Tuesday with a 25 degree spread from low to high.

TUESDAY'S HIGH TEMPERATURE FORECAST

Clouds and sunshine (or lack of ) will be an issue and there is the chance for a late day shower or thunderstorm for somebody.  Then we go back to more normalized conditions on Wednesday with some sunshine and highs in the 50s to near 60. Thursday it is back to a developing ocean wind with some sunshine. Highs will be in the 50s to near 60 again.

TUESDAY'S HIGH TEMPERATURE FORECAST

Friday we have an approaching cold front and a gusty southerly wind that will develop ahead of it. It appears that showers will hold off until late in the day. Highs will be in the 60s except 50s along the shore. Then weather conditions improve Saturday before clouds arrive on Sunday with the chance for rain late in the day.
