High Wind Watch Sunday
From a weather standpoint it is a busy couple of days with so much happening in the atmosphere so quickly it is very hard to keep up. First off we have a HIGH WIND WATCH posted for Sunday as a strong storm is going to explode just east of Long Island Sunday morning. With high pressure to the west the pressure gradient will be extremely tight.
HIGH WIND WATCH FORECAST WIND GUSTS 8AM SUNDAY MORNING
A large area of 40 to 50 mph is forecast from Coastal Southern New England southward to Delaware and westward to cover most of Eastern Pennsylvania. In addition to that we have the possibility of seeing a burst of snow in some areas on the northern part of high wind watch area. The burst might whiten the ground or even leave a coating to an inch or two especially in elevated areas.
High Wind Watch Sunday Satellite Loop
The warm southwest flow continues and that is bringing up some tropical moisture into the northeast. It isn’t all that well organized and the upper air conditions are not overly supportive for severe weather. However a thunderstorm or two is not out of the question along with some heavier downpours. The cloud line is moving right along to the west however it is going to come to a grinding halt tonight as the cold front stalls along the coast.
High Wind Watch Sunday Regional & Local Radar Loops
Radar does show some bands of showers coming up from the west and southwest. The area in Virginia right now has some heavier rains in it and that could head for Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey later today.
As for temperatures look for highs this afternoon in the 70s and some areas might see middle to upper 70s if the sun can manage to break through the clouds. A marine layer will keep temperatures along the coast cooler and this includes Long Island and Coastal Connecticut where the south wind continues to cause problems with afternoon highs.
High Wind Watch Sunday Forecast High Temperatures Friday
Tonight some showers will be around but not continuous. Lows will be in the 50s to near 60. The front stalls out on Saturday and a wave developing on the front will bring a period of rain Saturday morning into early afternoon. Temperatures could make the 60s before beginning to drop later in the day. Saturday night into Sunday morning begins the wind issue. The winds will not pick up until after 4am or so…it may come with a burst of snow that whitens the ground up or more. We will deal with that particular issue with a separate post later this morning.
