The weekend is underway and we are enjoying some sunshine. Milder air is beginning to arrive aloft and that is producing high clouds in response. Temperatures bottomed out in the upper teens and lower 20s this morning but we are heading for the upper 30s and lower 40s this afternoon.

Radars are nice and quiet for today and for the whole weekend. Tonight we will see nothing more than some passing clouds with temperatures in the upper 20s to middle 30s. Sunday looks nice and mild with sunshine and a few passing clouds with highs in the 50s everywhere. Some warm spots could approach 60.

Monday here comes a cold front with some clouds and maybe a few passing showers with highs in the 50s. Longer range we have a stronger front with showers and possibly a thunderstorm coming on Wednesday. Then we get ready for the end of next week where models are beginning to get some sense of continuity regarding a storm system off the southeast coast.

The European has been leading the way with this for days and the other models catching up. The GFS of course is the last one to finally recognize that something is going on. I think it is going to be a question of how far north this all gets and how deep the upper air feature is. It is going to need to lift northward to effect areas north of Southern New Jersey. The European this run was further north than the prior run bringing the northern fringe of precipitation to New York City and Long Island. Let’s see what today’s trends bring us. Here is my overnight model analysis regarding the upper air jet stream pattern for this possible event.
