Rainfall Making A Dent In Drought Conditions
One positive that seems to have developed recently is that we are getting rainfall events with more frequency as today is the third time in the last week and a half that we have seen rain. Tomorrow will be the forth and all these events may start to add up soon. More is likely at some point over the weekend and into next week. Rainfall forecast totals per the gfs run has 2 inches plus over New York City and nearby.
Radar and satellite show a lot of Gulf of Mexico moisture moving up in response to the warm tropical air flooding the eastern seaboard. Today’s first batch of rain is set to move out this afternoon. Then a second more impressive batch of rainfall is setting up for midday Wednesday into Wednesday night. That round could leave an inch or so of rain in some places.
So look for the rain this afternoon to taper off from west to east. Then its cloudy and warm through tomorrow morning with tempertures probably holding in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Then its record highs into the 70s on Christmas eve. Im thinking that much of the day will be dry until later in the afternoon and evening when a cold front moves through with showers and maybe a thunderstorm. Christmas day will be dry and cooler with some breaks of sunshine.
